What Is a Chocolate Envelope?
A chocolate envelope is a slim paperboard wrap that folds around a single chocolate bar. It opens like a greeting card, with a flap that tucks or locks shut. Most bars go in with their inner foil or wax wrap still on, and the envelope becomes the printed outer layer.
It sits between a wrapper and a box. It's lighter and flatter than a box, but it feels far more like a gift than a plain wrapper. Envelopes are part of our custom chocolate boxes.
Closures and Envelope Styles
The closure decides how the envelope opens and how secure it feels. A lock tab slots into a die-cut notch and holds the flap shut with no glue. A tuck flap slides inside the front panel for a clean look. For favors that need to stay sealed until the event, you can add a peel-and-seal adhesive strip or a round sticker with your logo.

SBS (Solid Bleached Sulfate) Paperboard: Smooth and white for sharp logos and bright colors. The most common choice for retail and favors.
Kraft Stock: Brown and natural looking. A good fit for bean-to-bar, organic, and handmade brands.

All stocks fold cleanly at 10pt to 24pt. We use FSC-certified materials that are 100% recyclable.
Keeping Bars Flat and Clean
Chocolate bars snap easily when they bend. A stiffer board, like 18pt or 24pt, keeps the envelope flat in a bag, a mailbox, or a guest's pocket. Gloss or matte lamination and aqueous coating help the surface resist fingerprints, scuffs, and light moisture. Keep in mind that the envelope protects the bar's shape and look. The inner wrap still does the work of keeping the chocolate fresh.
Printing and Finishes
Choose CMYK for full-color artwork or PMS colors to match your brand exactly. Digital printing works well for short runs and seasonal designs. Offset printing suits larger orders where color must stay the same across every piece.
Print outside for your logo, flavor, and ingredients. Print inside the flap for a wedding date, a thank-you note, or a client message. Then finish with gold or silver foil stamping, embossing, debossing, spot UV, or raised ink.
