Americans eat more shrimp than any other seafood, and most of it is bought frozen. So the box isn’t just a wrapper. It sits in a blast freezer, rides in a truck, waits in a warehouse, and then spends days in a store freezer case. Each time the temperature shifts, water beads up on the surface. Plain paperboard soaks that water in, and before long the corners start to split.
That’s why we don’t use plain board for shrimp. For 1 lb and 2 lb retail packs, we use PE-lined SBS paperboard. For 5 lb blocks and bigger, we switch to wax-coated corrugated. If you pack fish fillets or crab legs too, our custom frozen food boxes come in the same materials, so your whole freezer line looks like it belongs together.

Most people grab frozen shrimp with the freezer door half open. They don’t read much. They look at the brand, the photo, and the size. So we put your logo and a clean product shot on the front. The sides and back carry what buyers flip the box over to check, like the count per pound (21/25 or 31/40), net weight, raw or cooked, peeled or shell-on, and where the shrimp came from.
We’re a custom box manufacturer, not a reseller of stock boxes. We don’t take one standard box and stick a new label on it. Every shrimp box starts with your product: how much it weighs, how it’s packed, and where it’ll sit. Plenty of processors and distributors run more than one brand or private label, and we can give each one its own size, material, and artwork. If it’s easier, we can also keep one size and change only the design. Either way, it’s made to order.
Box Styles for Frozen Shrimp Boxes
Where the box ends up matters most. A grocery freezer, a restaurant walk-in, and a distributor’s warehouse each call for something different.
- Tuck-End Retail Boxes – the usual pick for 1 lb and 2 lb frozen shrimp, since they close flat and stack well
- Tuck-End Boxes with a Die-cut Window – shoppers can check the shrimp size and color before buying
- Sleeve and Tray Boxes – nice for premium or gift packs, like jumbo shrimp with cocktail sauce
- Wax-Coated Corrugated Cases – hold 5 lb blocks and bulk packs for restaurants and distributors
Most of our retail shrimp boxes fall between 6" x 6" x 2" for 1 lb and 8" x 6" x 2" for 2 lbs. Those are just starting points. We make every box to the dimensions you need, including bigger cases for 5 lb blocks. Send us the net weight, how the shrimp is packed (bagged, block-frozen, or on a tray), and where the boxes will be stored, and we’ll suggest a size.
Shrimp Box Materials We Recommend
It comes down to how your shrimp is packed and how cold it stays.
- Wax-coated corrugated board – strong and water-resistant, made for 5 lb blocks, bulk cases, and fresh shrimp on ice
- PE-lined (polyethylene) SBS paperboard – white and smooth, prints photos well, with a thin plastic layer inside to block moisture
- Kraft paperboard – brown and natural, a good fit for local seafood markets selling fresh shrimp the same day
Our paperboard runs from 10pt to 24pt. Go heavier if your boxes get stacked high in the freezer. For export or ice-packed loads, our wax seafood boxes handle water even better, and plain corrugated boxes make good outer cases for retail boxes that are already sealed. Just know that wax-coated and PE-lined boxes are harder to recycle than plain board in a lot of cities.
Printing Options for Custom Printed Shrimp Boxes
Full-color photos print in CMYK. If your brand blue has to be the exact same blue on every box, we use PMS instead. Which press we use depends on the board.
- Flexography: Corrugated board is usually printed flexo. It’s great for bold logos, text, and up to four colors, and it keeps costs down on big runs of bulk shrimp cases.
- Lithography: For retail tuck-end boxes, we print offset litho on SBS. You get crisp photos and small text that stays readable. Need a photo-quality corrugated box? We print a litho sheet and laminate it onto the corrugated, the same way we handle our other food packaging boxes.
Finishes you can add:
