Custom Pharmaceutical Packaging Boxes
Pharmaceutical packaging has a harder job than most. The box has to hold a bottle steady, carry a leaflet, leave room for a Drug Facts panel and an NDC barcode that scans on the first pass, and still show a lot number and expiry date a pharmacist can read at arm's length. Get one of those wrong and the whole run is scrap.
Urgent Boxes makes custom pharmaceutical boxes for medicine brands, supplement companies, medical device sellers, and pharmacies across the USA. Bottles, blisters, tubes, vials, ampoules, droppers, test kits, masks. Send us your product dimensions and artwork, and you get a dieline and a 3D mockup back before we make anything.
Types of Pharmaceutical Packaging
Buyers use one word for three different things, and it causes real confusion at the quoting stage. Every type of pharmaceutical packaging falls into one of three layers.
Primary Packaging
Whatever is in direct contact with the product: blister foil, pill bottles, sachets, ampoules, vials, tubes, droppers. This layer does the chemistry. It carries the moisture and oxygen barrier, and it's what your stability data is built on. Primary packaging usually needs its own material qualification.
We don't make primary packaging, and you should be careful with any supplier who blurs this line. Your bottle and blister come from a container specialist.
Secondary Packaging
The box, the leaflet, the sleeve, the insert, the outer that goes on a pharmacy shelf. This layer does four jobs: it blocks light, it holds the primary container still, it carries nearly all your regulated label copy, and it's the only part a customer actually looks at.
This is what we make. Every custom box in this category is secondary packaging for pharmaceuticals.
Tertiary Packaging
Master cases, corrugated shippers, dividers, pallet-level packing. This layer survives the freight network. If you sell direct to consumers, your secondary and tertiary layers often collapse into a single mailer. Which changes your material choice, and we cover that below.
We make tertiary boxes too, so one order can cover your retail box and your master case with matching artwork.

Boxes Built Around Your Label Copy
This is where pharmaceutical packaging differs from every other category, and where a cheap supplier costs you a whole run.
Drug Facts and Supplement Facts panels need real space. The panel has mandated type sizes and layout. Shrink it to make the front look better and the run gets rejected. Tell us it's going on the box and we'll size the panel first, then build around it.
Barcodes have to scan. We keep them off crease lines, hold the quiet zone, and run 100% black on white. Ask for a scan check on your sample.
Lot and expiry codes go on after we ship. We leave a clean uncoated patch for your inkjet or thermal coder — coating over it is the top reason variable data smears. Tell us your coder type and we'll place it to match.
Ink. Soy and water-based as standard. Where ink could contact product, we spec low-migration and leave the interior bare.
Finishes: CMYK, PMS, foil stamping, embossing, debossing, spot UV, matte and gloss lamination, soft-touch, aqueous coating, window patching.
Child-Resistant Pharmaceutical Packaging
If your product falls under the Poison Prevention Packaging Act, the certified closure is usually the bottle, not the box. Child-resistant pharmaceutical packaging works as a system, and the box is one layer of it.
Child-Resistant Outers: We build push-and-slide and locking-tab styles for CBD, pill, and cartridge products. These add a second barrier on top of a CR bottle, and for some product classes the outer carries the CR function itself. Tell us your product class and we'll advise where it belongs.
Senior-Friendly Opening: The trap nobody mentions: a box locked so tight an 80-year-old with arthritis can't open it. Certified CR packaging has to pass a senior-adult test as well as a child test. We tune tuck depth and flap tension to keep it secure without needing scissors.
Tamper-Evident Options: Tear strips, glued end flaps, void-pattern seals, and shrink banding. A tamper-evident feature plus a matching statement on the label is generally expected — bring your compliance team's requirement and we'll build to it.
Inserts, Leaflets, and Interior Fitments
- Paperboard inserts: lowest cost, fully recyclable, holds bottles and tubes upright
- Foam nests: for glass ampoules, vials, and droppers that can't take a knock
- Dividers: separate a bottle from its dosing cup or syringe
- Leaflet space: patient information leaflets need a planned gap; a folded leaflet stuffed into a box built without allowance will bow the panels
We supply leaflets, hang tags, labels, and stickers alongside the boxes, so your whole packaging for pharmaceuticals set arrives from one supplier and matches.
Why Health Brands Order From Us
3,000+ businesses have ordered from Urgent Boxes. Here's what matters to the pharma ones:
We ask about the Facts panel before you pay. Most suppliers take your PDF and run it. We check panel space, barcode placement, and the code patch first, because a rejected run costs you six weeks.
100 boxes is a real starting point. Test a formula, hit a trade show, or fill one pharmacy account without committing to a pallet.
Free design support. Send a logo and a bottle. We'll build the dieline and lay out the artwork. No design fee.
One supplier for the whole set. Boxes, inserts, leaflets, labels, and hang tags, made together so the blues match.
