The barrier layer is your inner packaging. A foil-lined sachet, a heat-sealed pouch, or a laminated inner liner is what blocks oxygen, moisture, and light at the product surface. This is where freshness is won or lost.
The carton is the second line. It blocks ambient light entirely, absorbs compression in transit, keeps sachets from tearing against each other, and prevents scent transfer on a shelf stocked with chamomile next to peppermint. The carton is also your entire retail argument. It's the surface carrying your COA reference, your dosage panel, your batch code, and the visual that decides whether someone picks it up.

Box Styles for Tea and Hemp Products
Straight tuck end (STE): The standard retail carton. Front and back flaps tuck the same direction, so the closure sits on the back panel and your front face stays clean. Best for 10–20 count sachet cartons on a shelf.
Reverse tuck end (RTE): Cheaper to nest on the press sheet, so slightly lower cost per unit. The tuck shows on the front bottom edge. Fine for outer cases or subscription inserts.
Seal end / auto-bottom: Glued base, pops open for fast hand-filling. Worth it above roughly 5,000 units when line speed matters.
Sleeve and tray: A printed sleeve over an open tray. Reads premium at a folding-carton budget. Common for 6-count sampler sets.
Rigid two-piece box: 1200–2000 gsm greyboard wrapped in printed paper. Doesn't fold flat, costs more to ship, and feels like a gift. Use for holiday and loose-leaf tea tins.
Mailer box (corrugated): E-flute or B-flute, for direct-to-consumer shipping without a secondary carton.
